From Athens I travelled to Egypt, I knew it was risky business but I decided to go ahead with it when booking my trip. As I don’t think I’ll be flying over to Europe again anytime soon, so thought why not visit Egypt on my trip. I always thought the pyramids were fascinating and that it would be amazing to see in real life, in which I had the chance to see it all up in person. Spent about a day there as I arrived the night before, so the next day I went on a tour. It was a day tour to the Pyramids of Giza, Sphinx, Memphis & Sakkara.
I will provide information about Egypt along with photos below of my trip!
Egypt is a 19 hour and 10 minute plane ride from Melbourne flying with Emirates with a stopover in Dubai. Otherwise if you’re flying with other airlines it generally takes longer.
The common language that people speak in Egypt is Arabic and English.
The currency in Egypt is the EGP Egyptian Pound.
What to know
- On arrival to Cairo Airport you’ll need $25 USD for a 30 day entry visa
- Organise everything in advance prior to travelling to Egypt – accomodation, airport transfer, tour, etc
- If locals come up to you and ask for money just kindly say no and they’ll back off
- Dress modestly when travelling in Egypt avoid wearing anything too revealing
Best time to travel
September through to April
Sights and attractions
- Pyramids of Giza
- Great Sphinx of Giza
- Memhpis City
- Sakkara City
- Luxor Temple
- Valley of the Kings
- Abu Simbel
- Pyramid of Djoser & more
It depends on how you spend your days although money does add up quite quickly whilst you’re over there. On average I would say $20+ AUD is enough to spend for the day.
